How to Be in Solidarity with the Writer's Guild
WGA is Striking for Better Pay in the Entertainment Industry, Here's how you can Help
As you may have heard, the Writer’s Guild of America is currently striking in the entertainment industry in order to receive better pay. As income inequality is at record highs across all industries, around half of writers in the entertainment industry are being paid near the minimum and a wage that is not livable. According to the WGA, median weekly pay decreased 23% for television and film writers in the last decade.
Many of us in the United States and the world cannot picket in solidarity with workers due to location. There are however a variety of locations across the nation to picket with writers and workers in solidarity. With that being said, there are other ways you can help stand with writers and fellow creatives in this time as well.
Donating to the Entertainment Community Fund is one of the best ways to help support entertainment workers especially in times like these. You can also sign this AFL-CIO petition in your commitment to pay equality and fair labor value.
