The Music Industry Is Being Incredibly Regressive Once Again
Warner Music Signs Their First AI (Not) "Artist"
Amid worker labor strikes in the rest of the entertainment industry due to the use of AI replacing human labor and insufficient wages, executives have continued to be tone deaf and push AI. There is currently a writers strike, actors strike, and likely soon-to-be a video game actors strike. AI poses a severe threat to artist industries as executives hope to maximize their profits. In the meantime, this means less work and less viability for artist livelihood.
Union members and artists are resisting AI as something antithetical to human well-being. Despite this, Warner Music has decided to sign its first AI music character. The unfortunate reality with music is that there isn’t much action to take. Executives have carefully crafted the music industry to be individualistic without unions.
The one thing music can do is be vocal about labor rights, equity, and work together to maintain the beauty that humans create. Collectively, humans can create things that transcend. In order to save that reality in the future, the time is now to create music proving this and make your creative voice heard.
